Dorothy began her professional career in 1973 in San Francisco with the Hansen Fuller Gallery. In the late '70's, she became a principal in the gallery which was subsequently renamed Hansen Fuller Goldeen and then Fuller Goldeen.

The gallery was one of the most respected contemporary venues outside of New York . It presented the first shows in the Bay Area for many prominent American artists including Ed Ruscha, Joel Shapiro and Lynda Benglis. It was the gallery of record for many of the important Bay Area artists who emerged in the '70's, including Robert Arneson, Joan Brown and William T. Wiley. In fact, the gallery's papers now reside in the Archives of American Art at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.
