Patrick Hill

The Culver City gallery scene has recently welcomed two significant additions, previously located in Chinatown, David Kordansky Gallery and Peres Projects.  Kordansky has a spectacular new space that is well-served by Patrick Hill’s elegant and intriguing sculpture.  The work is strong and fresh with a nod to historical antecedents.   It is a terrific show.

Other highlights of this past Saturday afternoon included an early look at Dave Muller’s show opening at Blum & Poe, and one particularly fine drawing by Steve Roden at Suzanne Vielmetter’s Gallery, where you will consistently find work that is worthy of consideration.   Suzanne Vielmetter Gallery

Amir H. Fallah, Tony De Los Reyes, Christopher Pate and Lucas Reiner hosted an open studio event on Sunday afternoon. The occasion was prompted by the departure of Amir’s paintings bound for the Sharjah Biennale in the UAE which opens with a VIP preview on March 18. The biennele coincides this year with Art Dubai. Amir will follow the Biennele with a one-person show in April at The Third Line, Dubai’s premier gallery for forefront work.

Chris Pate was showing two paintings from his recent show at Jail, which was well-reviewed in the January issue of Art Forum. Lucas Reiner featured paintings from his ongoing series exploring the nature of trees and fireworks. The star work from Tony De Los Reyes was the one created by him and his stellar gallerist wife, Mary Leigh Cherry, snuggled in a proud papa’s arms.
