Around Town

shapiro-install05-1.jpg

It’s great to see mature artists of renown best themselves. Joel Shapiro at LA Louver has really done it. A beautiful show in which his sculpture excels in both lightness and density. Classic work that just got even better. LA Louver

China town has seen some shifts as the galleries relocate and reposition. Two that will enrich our viewing in the area are Solway Jones (Robert Walker above) who is now at 990 Hill St. and David Patton, who moved into Mary Goldman’s old space on Chung King Road. Thomas Solomon Gallery@Cottage Home, which opened last Fall is a great anchor to the scene. Check out For Your Art for listings and maps. For Your Art

Beautiful Science

Huntington One

The Huntington Library in Pasadena has inaugurated a permanent new exhibition titled “Beautiful Science: Ideas that Changed the World.” The exhibition highlights four areas of exploration: astronomy, natural history, medicine and light. The installation is as imaginative and visually arresting as the science it depicts.
